Bubby Howell – Captain of the Crew, Owner, and Lead Tour Guide

For more than 40 years, Captain Bubby, a local resident, has explored and discovered the area’s natural treasures. His interest and enjoyment of natural South Florida began at an early age and has grown over the years. Bubby spent lots of unforgettable days on the beaches of Florida swimming, shelling and snorkeling.  As a result of all these childhood travels, Bubby has accumulated a tremendous amount of knowledge on South Florida ecology and animal and marine. Additionally, your guide is a trained docent and interpretative guide, who thinks creatively and knows how to make exceptional things happen! Motivated to aid in the protection and enhancement of the area’s fragile ecosystems, Bubby explains to people about their role in coexisting, ensuring the protection of wildlife, natural habitats and surrounding aquatic ecosystems. Bubby holds a Florida Master Naturalist degree from the University of Florida and is one of only 1,648 individuals listed on the Honor Roll of Florida Master Naturalists.

Paula Schuttera- First Mate, Tour Guide and Operations Manager

Paula’s primary job is to provide administrative duties to the organization, as well as, everything that Bubby doesn’t want to do. Smiley-emoji-Wink-Female  She has a thirst for learning and has multiple degrees and certifications including a bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice, Social Work, and in Human Development-Family Services, graduate certificates in Public Administration, Cultural Diversity, and the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education Program. In addition, she has a Master’s degree in Social Work and in Business with a concentration in Organizational Management and attended the University School of Law. However, her favorite job has been that of being mom to Princess Shelby. Paula is Bubby’s First Mate and they have known each other for 45 years.

Marilyn Odea – Crew and Tour Guide

Marilyn is Florida Master Naturalist and certified National Interpretative Guide. Marilyn’s love of nature began as a young child and led to her first training to become a docent and trail guide at Bear Creek Nature in Colorado. She then went on to spend the next 13 years being a naturalist and trail guide at the Garden of the Gods Park in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After which she went to work at Cheyenne Mountain where she taught the new docents, as well as, thousands of adults and youth about the many different animals and surrounding ecology. Upon her move to Fort Meyers, Florida, Marilyn’s became a swamp buggy guide at the Babcock Ranch. She then became a Florida Master Naturalist through the University of Florida and helped run the Nature Center at South Seas Island resort, where she also lead kayak trips, and beach and shell walks, as well as, talks on ospreys, dolphins and manatees. For the last decade, she has been a naturalist and guide at Ostego Bay Marine Science Center, and assisted in the classroom for the Master Naturalist core modules. In addition to being part of Captain Bubby’s crew, Marilyn works as a tour guide for the international company; Dragonfly Expeditions out of Coral Gables, Florida.

The Creative Team Members

In developing the tours targeted for families, homeschool students and youth groups, we enlisted the help of three young adults who are “experts” at being kids. Additionally these kids are very smart, hard-working, polite, and caring. Our sincere thanks to Karsyn, Jacob and Sean.

Focus Group Members

To ensure that we are developing and delivering the very best service product possible we have implemented the practice of bringing people together in small-group discussions. We continue to use this forum to learn more about opinions on designated topics and use the information gained to guide us in our future actions. We have been very fortunate to have Debbie, Gale, Janet, Stephanie and Kelly, Terry, John, Randy, Dee, and Marilyn sharing their suggestions, offering guidance, and showing continued support to us.
